Milkweed Varieties Available
Think Turtle is offering two types of Milkweed Seeds from Bee Kissed Seeds, a trusted Ontario supplier. The seeds we offer are suitable for both rural and urban settings. Both varieties attract Monarch butterflies and other pollinators, but thrive in different environments, making them perfect for a range of landscapes. Whether you’re creating a new pollinator habitat or enhancing an existing one, Milkweed is a fantastic choice.
Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca)
Ideal Conditions: Grows in dry to moderately moist soils, often found in open fields and along roadsides.
Why Plant It?: A favorite of Monarchs, it spreads vigorously and provides abundant nectar for pollinators.
Red Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) – Also Known as Swamp Milkweed
Ideal Conditions: Flourishes in wetter environments such as damp meadows, marshes, the edges of ponds, along shorelines, in rain gardens, and does well even in heavy clay soils.
Why Plant It?: Adds vibrant color to moist landscapes while filling an important ecological niche.

Seedy Saturday – Maynooth
Saturday, March 15, 2025
Hastings Highlands Centre, Emond Hall (33011 Highway 62 N, Maynooth)
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Join us for Seedy Saturday, a community event filled with gardening resources, vendors, a seed swap, and hands-on activities! Stop by Think Turtle’s booth to get your Milkweed seeds and learn how you can support local turtles this spring.
Note: Milkweed is toxic to dogs and cats, as it contains cardiac glycosides (cardenolides) that can affect the nervous system, muscles, and kidneys. If pet safety is a concern where you plan to plant milkweed, consider alternative native wildflowers that support pollinators while being safe for pets. Some great options include black-eyed Susan, Joe-Pye weed, and prairie crocus.
This fundraiser supports pollinator-friendly initiatives and turtle conservation. Help make a difference—one Milkweed seed at a time! Thank you for considering a milkweed seed purchase from Think Turtle..
